More about Marieme

Marieme co-designs and facilitates programming, translates learning into accessible resources, and engages youth in SSN’s work. Her passion for youth-focused work began during her undergraduate years where she managed a tutoring program for middle school students. This experience led her to work in schools in Brooklyn and Harlem as a high school English teacher, DEI practitioner, and alumni advisor. As a native New Yorker, her own experiences in private school inspire her commitment to fostering equitable outcomes for traditionally underserved students. Marieme holds a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University and a master's degree from Brooklyn College.

Hear from Marieme

We asked: If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Marieme answered: If I could experience it as if it were the first time every time, I’d choose Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I love multigenerational storytelling. It's beautifully written and explores Black history and the impact of slavery over centuries and continents. One of the highlights of my teaching career was reading it with my juniors!
